IMOS - Fuel Zones
Home > Data Center > Fuel Zones
You must have the Fuel Zones Module Right selected under Ports and Areas in the Data Center.
The Fuel Zones form is used to specify estimated/projected low-sulfur consumption for different ECA Fuel Zones. Consumption is specified in sets and can accommodate different ECA regulations, different Vessel Types, and other factors. You can create multiple Fuel Zone Sets, including a Global Default Set, and apply them to specific vessels, Vessel Types, Estimates, and voyages.
Setup
On the Data Center menu …, under Ports and Areas, click Fuel Zones.
Select the + icon to create a new Fuel Zone.
Enter a Name and Description for the Fuel Zone Set.
IMO 2020: This will only be visible when CFGEnableScrubberType is enabled. Checking this box will create 2 tabs in the Fuel Zone Set for Scrubber and Non-Scrubber.
Default: Select to make this set the Global Default.
The Fuel Zone with this box checked will default for all estimates and voyages unless otherwise specified in the Vessel Details.
Inactive: Select to make this Set inactive.
Fuel Zones cannot be deleted in order to maintain data integrity. Utilize this checkbox if a Fuel Zone is no longer in use and needs to be retired.
For each ECA Fuel Zone, specify the low-sulfur Fuel/Lube Types (marked L in the G column) to be consumed in each of the categories.
Propulsion at Sea: Propulsion/Aux.
Consumption in Port: L/D/Idle
Misc. Consumption: Heat/IGS/Etc.
(cons rate only): In some ECA Zones, one Fuel Type must be consumed at its own consumption rate plus the consumption rate of another Fuel Type. To consume the first Fuel Type at the rate of both added together, select one Fuel Type plus one (cons rate only)
For more details, see IMOS - Creating a Fuel Zone Set.
When the configuration flag CFGEnableScrubberType is enabled, high-sulfur fuels cannot be added to the Non-Scrubber tab of the Fuel Zones form. If the drop-down menu only allows the (cons rate only) to be entered, the fuel is labeled as a high-sulfur fuel on the Fuel/Lube Types form.
Set Up - Scrubbers
For the following ECA zones, scrubber settings as set on the representative port record will now be applied for At Sea consumption:
ECA - GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE
ECA - BALTIC SEA
ECA - PUGET SOUND
ECA - COLUMBIA RIVER
ECA - MISSISSIPPI RIVER ECA - AMAZON RIVER
ECA - ARGENTINA-RIVER PLATE
The default scrubber allowance setting for the listed regions is for Closed-loop scrubbers.
Inland water zones
Many rivers and inland water systems have strict rules around consumption and require low-sulfur fuel rather than scrubbed fuel. Scrubber-fitted vessels need to have low-sulfur fuel entered for the inland water zones if they have high-sulfur fuel entered for the broader zone.
Fuels you set in inland water zones supersede the fuel entered in the broader, overlapping zone.
Example:
To ensure proper fuel consumption for scrubber-fitted vessels entering the overlapping zones of NA 200NM and ECA – PUGET SOUND, the vessels must have low-sulfur fuel entered for ECA – PUGET SOUND. If MGO, a low-sulfur fuel, is entered in ECA – PUGET SOUND, it will supersede the high-sulfur IFO entered in the NA 200NM fuel zone.

IMO 2020
The IMO 2020 functionality accommodates the use of scrubbers on vessels and accounts for the allowance of scrubbers in given ports and zones. For more information on the IMO 2020 Fuel Type setup, visit the following article: IMOS - Compliance with IMO 2020
Considerations
When configuring fuel zones, you need to specify which low-sulfur fuel types will be consumed in each category. If multiple fuel types are defined for a given fuel zone, and the vessel is carrying those fuel types, they will be burned simultaneously.
If you've grouped fuel types on the Fuel/Lube Types form, the vessel cannot burn both fuel types from the same group at the same time. For example, if IFO and LSF belong to one group, the vessel cannot consume both simultaneously.
When selecting fuels and note that the dropdown menu only shows "(cons rate only)" for a fuel, it means that fuel is labeled as high-sulfur on the Fuel/Lube Types form.
When a route between two ports crosses more than one Fuel Zone, a Passing Point is added to the itinerary to indicate the entry to the next Fuel Zone.
