IMOS - COA/CVC Analysis

Home > Chartering > COA/CVC Analysis

With the COA/CVC Analysis form, you can run estimates to assess potential contract of affreightment (COA) or consecutive voyage charter (CVC) opportunities in the market by looking at how the offered rate compares to the market prices.

This information can help you determine whether or not to enter into a contract or look for other opportunities.

To navigate to COA/CVC Analysis, open the Veson IMOS Platform main menu, then navigate to Chartering. Expand the Chartering menu to see the Trade Hub section of Chartering, where COA/CVC Analysis is listed.

Contract of Affreightment (COA): A contract for a grouping of cargoes. A long-term agreement or grouping mechanism for a series of cargo liftings in what might be different vessels.

Consecutive Voyage Charter (CVC): A type of a voyage charter where a vessel is contracted for several consecutive voyages.

Accessing COA/CVC Analysis

To request access to COA/CVC Analysis, contact your Veson IMOS Platform administrator. COA/CVC Analysis will not be visible in the Chartering menu until your Veson IMOS Platform administrator enables the configuration flag CFGNewChartering and assigns security rights for the appropriate users or user groups. If COA/CVC Analysis is visible but grayed out in the menu, the flag has been enabled, but security rights have not been assigned.

Once the configuration flag has been enabled and security rights assigned, COA/CVC Analysis will no longer be grayed out and you will be able to access it.

Running COA/CVC Analysis on an Estimate

Step 1 – Selecting an Estimate

Once you’ve navigated to the COA/CVC Analysis form, select an existing estimate using the Estimate ID field.

If there is already a saved COA/CVC calculation associated with an Estimate ID, selecting the Estimate ID will pull all saved values and auto-populate the calculation form.

If there is not a saved COA/CVC calculation associated with an Estimate ID, only the Counterparty, CP Quantity, Freight Rate, and DWF will be auto-populated in the calculation form exactly as if the analysis were loaded from the Estimate view in Voyage Estimates.

Step 2 – Populating the Form

If there is not a saved calculation associated with the Estimate ID you selected, you will need to populate the remaining fields in the form. You can select the time frame for the analysis, as well as market data routes and symbols.

Step 3 – Calculating COA/CVC Analysis and Understanding the Results

Once the form fields are filled, select Calculate to run a COA/CVC analysis on the estimate. The output table will then display how the offered rate and value of the trade compares to market prices.

With this information, you can determine whether or not to enter into a contract or look for other opportunities.

When Enabled, users can access Market Insights and Action Cargoes as features within the Chartering Module without any additional licensing.

Market Insights will provide the ability to search through vessel positions in the market using operational data and the latest AIS positions that a vessel reports, and narrow your search to find matching vessels that can meet theoretical laycan windows.

Action Cargoes will use your existing Cargo Book and allow you to find vessels that could meet the specific demand. The tool will use aspects of the cargo as filters as well as the laycan window to narrow the search for matching vessels.
