IMOS - Microsoft Power BI Integration - Licenses FAQ

Due to a recent change in Microsoft’s partner program, Veson Nautical is no longer able to bundle Power BI Pro licenses with the Veson IMOS Platform, or provision such licenses on behalf of clients.

Veson will continue to support integration with Power BI, and no functionality will be affected.

However, any existing Power BI Pro licenses provisioned on your behalf by Veson will cease to auto-renew after December 31, 2021. Licenses that are up for auto-renewal before December 31, 2021 will renew automatically for their full term as normal, but then will cease to automatically renew at the end of that term.

If Veson has provisioned Power BI Pro licenses for your organization, In order to continue utilizing the PowerBI integration within the Veson IMOS Platform after your licenses expire, you have three options available:

If your organization has corporate licenses to Power BI, you may use those to connect to the Veson IMOS Platform.
You may purchase new Power BI Pro licenses directly from Microsoft (currently $9.99 USD/month).
You may utilize a Power BI Free license which offers much of the same functionality as the Pro version.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Power BI Pro and Free license functionality?

A: With respect to the Veson IMOS Platform functionality, there is virtually no difference in functionality. With a Free license, you can still integrate the license account with the Veson IMOS Platform and create/edit/publish dashboards to the Veson IMOS Platform.

However, the Free license does not allow you to use the Share function within the Microsoft Power BI desktop application, so users with a Free account will not be able to share dashboards through the Power BI desktop, nor receive/view dashboards created by other users with Pro licenses through the Power BI desktop.

Will this affect my existing reports, will they stop working after the expire date?

A: Yes - you will need to republish any existing dashboards to the Veson IMOS Platform utilizing your new licenses.

How can I get new Power BI licenses?

A: You can purchase new Power BI Pro licenses directly from Microsoft (currently $9.99 USD/month), or sign up for a Power BI Free license.

After I acquire new Power BI licenses, how do I link them to the Veson IMOS Platform?
