When Backup Fuel is set up on the Fuel/Lube Types form, IMOS will automatically know to consume the backup fuel at the rate of consumption of the primary fuel. Below are two scenarios for the expected consumption behavior.

Expected Consumption Behavior for Backup Fuels

Scenario 1 - Insufficient Primary Fuel

When there is insufficient primary fuel onboard the vessel to complete a voyage, IMOS will automatically switch to consuming the backup fuel (assuming that there is sufficient backup fuel to complete the entire voyage).

Scenario 2 - Insufficient Backup Fuel

When there is insufficient primary and backup fuel to complete a voyage, IMOS will display the voyage itinerary in red font and will default all required consumption to the primary fuel even if the expectation is for the backup fuel to be consumed for the rest of the voyage leg.

This is relevant for the IMO 2020 transition period where low-sulfur fuel is set up as a backup with the intention for it to be consumed for the rest of the voyage.
